Maternal and child mortality during pregnancy and the early years as well as a host of disabilities can be prevented if proper medical intervention, neo-natal care and nutrition are provided to women and children during and after pregnancy. To address this very same issue IMPACT Nepal has strategically developed its safe motherhood and child health programme to scale up and intensify the Government’s national maternal and neo-natal support programmes in the districts of Rautahat. The major activities under this programme includes following up on women for their regular ante-natal care (ANC) and post-natal care (PNC), supply of emergency obstetric care (EOC) kits to health centres/health posts for pregnant women, distribution of vitamin A and iron tablets to women and their newborns, immunizations to children under 5 years and pregnant mothers against tetanus.
