IMPACT Nepal has been engaged in providing safe drinking water and basic sanitation facilities (family and public toilets) to schools and the community in order to reduce the incidences of diarrhea, dysentery and other diseases particularly in the rural areas of Rupandehi, Siraha, Dhanusha, Rautahat, Gorkha and Tanahun districts. Under this programme, IN has established 165 tube wells in Rupandehi, Siraha, Dhanusha, and Rautahat districts. The Community Safe Drinking Water Projects that IN recently completed in Chyangly and Dhuwakot VDCs of Gorkha district and Ranagaun VDC of Tanahun district are based on gravity-fed water supply system where water is pumped-up from a low lying water source to a reservoir located on top of a mountain in the village and then supplied to the villagers via pipeline. A total of 164 private water taps were installed in Gorkha while 82 were installed in Tanahun. Similarly, IN has built about 63 new family toilets in Rautahat district.
